His music life history began in Hawaii, where he taught himself guitar on days when he wasn't at the beach. He went from merchandising bootleg albums to marketing out 20,000 seat amphitheaters, just throughout that time, Johnson always unbroken a property in his heart for his hometown and its beauty. Perhaps that was the accelerator for his environmentalist bent.

Johnson, 33, is one of a modern breed of musicians more concerned with the surround than luxuries. Rather than piling up the Poland Spring moldable, his crew is outfitted with reusable water bottles that ar refilled end-to-end the day.

Johnson is currently on enlistment through the end of August promoting his modish CD "Sleep Through the Static," released in February, an record album recorded victimization 100 percentage solar vitality and printed on recycled paper.

His turn buses and trucks ply on biodiesel. Tour T-shirts are made of constitutional cotton, and Johnson's staff recruits an army of young volunteers to help oneself get the word verboten in the Village Green, a series of tents that greet fans as they enter the concert venues. Each tent is staffed by a different nonprofit that educates concert-goers about a variety of environmentally-friendly activities, from cleansing up rivers to buying organic foods to promoting peace and registering to vote.

John Lennon - Ono Wins Fight To Keep Lennon Tapes Private

JOHN LENNON's widow YOKO ONO has won a legal bid to stop a video company from airing footage of the late Beatle smoking marijuana.

The nine-hour film - owned by Massachusetts-based World Wide Video - also shows Lennon discussing putting the hallucinogenic drug LSD in former U.S. President Richard Nixon's tea.

The company claims 24 raw tapes showing three days in Lennon's life in February 1970 - weeks prior to the Beatles' breakup - do not belong to Ono and attempted to sue her for copyright infringement.

Last month (Apr08), Lennon's widow filed a lawsuit to try and ban the video from the public domain.

On Wednesday (21May08) U.S. District Court Judge Rya Zobel ruled in favour of Ono on two counts.

Zobel told the court that Ono did not do anything constituting infringement - from performing copyrighted work publicly, or distributing or publicly displaying the videos.

He said: "What the plaintiff suggests just doesn't fit. It seems to me the defendant's motion is well taken because there was no infringement."

World Wide Video, which paid more than $1 million (GBP500,000) for the footage almost premiered it last year (07), but it scrapped the screening following an order from Ono's legal team.

Like many late-'90s metallic element bands, System of a Down stricken a residuum between '80s resistance slash metallic element and metallic early-'90s alternative rockers care Jane's Addiction. Their non-white, neo-gothic alternative alloy earned a cult following in the wake of the popularity of such likeminded bands as Korn and the Deftones. Vocalist Serj Tankian, guitar player Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan formed System of a Down in southern California in the mid-'90s. They quickly earned a substantial following in Los Angeles, largely based on substantial word of rima oris. A three-song demo began circulating through metal collectors, and their fan nucleotide shortly ranch throughout non only America, simply Europe and New Zealand.

By the end of 1997, the group had sign to American, then distributed by Columbia Records. American/Columbia released the group's eponymic debut album in the summertime of 1998, securing the band opening muscae volitantes on the Slayer and Ozzfest tours. System eventually went gold, and set up the September 2001 button of the even more ambitious Toxicity. System's minute feat was some other weighed down music prevail, shaming the absolute majority of their nu-metal competition and running aside with multi-platinum honors. The quartette didn't dense down. Malakian started the eatURmusic embossment and Tankian a label called Serjical Strike; Tankian too collaborated with Armenian vanguard folk musician Arto Tuncboyaciyan in a propose called Serart. In November 2002 System issued the bare bones only no less powerful odds 'n' ends localise Slip This Album!; they too remained politically active.

By 2004, System of a Down was back in the studio with Rick Rubin. The bold outcome of those roger Huntington Sessions was a single, larger-than-life album released in 2 parts. Mezmerize/Mesmerise kept System's enraged creativity awake, incorporating the wild vocal melodies, lyrical warmth, and rabid structural shifts that had go their hallmark. Mezmerize, or office one, appeared in May 2005, piece Mesmerize, its last section, appeared later in the yr, and both strike the top of the record album charts.
